I have over 20+ years of experience as a therapist, with a specialty in Women and Adolescent Health. My treatment approach is based on the needs of the individual client, concentrating in psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy.

I work with adults, women and adolescents struggling with the pain and challenges of the stressors that come with life. However, going beyond technique and theory is what makes therapy work – – it’s the realm of the trusting relationship: the ongoing human-to-human connection that provides the foundation for change. I provide a safe and warm environment that allows the client to engage with me in their process of change. Without a therapeutic relationship, there is no therapy. I combine empathy with humor to help the client feel comfortable and bring a humanistic approach into the room. I have advanced clinical expertise in the areas of interpersonal violence and will work with the client to bring back their self-esteem and function in the world independently.

Over the past 20 + years I have worked with issues of addiction with Alcohol, Drugs and Food. I have particularly focused on trauma work, grief and bereavement. I am trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I focus on building coping skills that can integrate into daily practice and reduce anxiety and depression. I use a mixed approach of strengths perspective and self-esteem building and some psychodynamic models. I am genuinely interested in the process and “relish” the commitment of two persons to explore answers to questions that might baffle us alone. I believe humor carries a lot of weight in wellness and looking in the mirror might become an awesome sight.

My goal as a therapist is to provide dedicated, non-judgmental space to help guide you in discovering and making sense of whatever brings you pain and difficulty in life in order to bring about meaningful change. My treatment style utilizes an eclectic approach to create a treatment plan that is as unique as each individual. The first step to making a change is to be willing to accept support. Working in the school system is what led me to re-evaluate my career and focus on helping others through their transitions in life.

I have gained social work experience while working with children, adolescents and adults. I would like to work as a team in a respectful environment to explore the obstacles you may face. Together, we will look at both the negative and positive outcomes and combine our thoughts to talk about the next steps. In order to create a comfortable setting, you will be able to talk freely about your personal goals and ideas. Homework is important to the process because it will not only let me know more about your needs, but will also give you the chance to be involved with how you would like us to proceed. My goal is to build a sense of wellness, emotional well-being and strengthen resilience. I am a licensed social worker. I obtained a Master of Social Work Degree from Adelphi University and an Undergraduate Psychology Degree from Queens College. My treatment style promotes healthy coping habits by using a strengths-based, person-centered and solution-based approach.

As a therapist my goal is to provide a warm, non-judgmental space where together we can explore the areas in life in which you wish to improve and work towards positive change. From a person-centered lens, I draw mainly from psychodynamic, self-compassion, CBT and mindfulness approaches.

I believe that depression, anxiety and negative patterns stem from deeply held beliefs formed in childhood. Therapy should be a safe space to explore the source of these beliefs and together challenge them while forming new self-dialogue. Mindfulness can help us in increasing awareness around the beliefs that are stored in our subconscious as we begin to examine the ways in which these may be triggered in our day to day life. Through this exploration we can identify barriers and begin to implement change. Implementing and providing concrete tools is an important part of my work as it allows for alleviation of the often debilitating symptoms that accompany depression, anxiety and PTSD. My experience is primarily in working with adolescents, adults and families. I have provided support to client’s struggling with anxiety, depression, sexual trauma, bi-polar disorder, chronic pain, PTSD and life transitions. I ultimately strive to empower my clients to take charge of their lives, implement change and learn how to advocate for themselves and their needs. Area of focus: • Anxiety • Depression • Sexual trauma • Bi-polar disorder • Chronic pain • PTSD • Life transitions
