Understanding your Adolescent Child

Day/Time: Sundays, 10-11am
Duration: 12 weeks.
Group Demographic: Male or Female, parent

A safe and nonjudgmental space for parents with adolescents to share their fears, struggles and knowledge as we learn the different aspects of parenting an adolescent for an increase in understanding.

Group Overview:

Some topics will include defining adolescence, identify the stages and physical and emotional changes that occur, learning about communication skills relating to boundary setting and handling conflict. We will also understand different parenting styles, encouraging independence, learning how to create consistencies and consequential thinking, support identity development and/or behavioral concerns like cutting or body dysmorphia, social media and technology, mental health and more.

All conversations will be confidential and held in the highest regard of privacy for all group members involved. The group has been established to provide community and understandable education to parents in what can be a very confusing and unfamiliar situation.

I use a variety of approaches to guide my client’s, based on strengths based perspective. 

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Therapy and psychoeducation. My experience includes partnering with my client’s particularly with addiction, mental health and dual diagnosis. Having worked as psychotherapist for over a decade I believe that I am qualified to assist pre-adolescents, adolescents, young adults and adults making adjustments to their mental health, addictions and/or both. Together we make a cohesive plan to sustain a lifestyle that offers a quality of life that can only be found with insight, perspective, resilience and understanding.
