I find it most helpful to begin therapy by understanding what makes meaning for the client. Because as the great psychotherapist Viktor Frankl said, “Those who have a ‘why’ to live can bear almost any ‘how.’ From this existential beginning I can identify and utilize a wealth of interventions and tailor them to who I am working with to solve – or at least minimize – almost any issue.
I view one of the keystones of the therapeutic relationship as empathy. Creating empathy is made by narrative – by sharing stories – and feeling another person’s pain. Empathy is the starting point for action against the endless ailments of the human experience. I am passionate about using empathy to understand and working as a team to fight suffering in its many forms.

I work with adolescents, adults, families, and couples to assist them in achieving their full potential; mentally, emotionally and behaviorally. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space in order to gain a deep understanding of each client’s needs.

I recognize that everyone has their own unique qualities and strengths. Therefore, I use an integrative approach that incorporates methods from an array of treatment modalities. My treatment approach derives from a Psychodynamic perspective, while incorporating Mindfulness, Solution-Focused and Cognitive-Behavioral techniques. What this essentially means, is that as your therapist, I will get to know the intricacies of your personality; your past and present feelings, motives, and decisions that make you who you are. By understanding the core of your belief systems, I will help you to learn to navigate them in order to change unwanted emotions or behavioral patterns.

My interest in psychology began years ago in the arts. As a student of drama at the Lee Strasberg Institute, I receive my bachelor degree from New York University and began to study the Stanislavsky Method, which was the integration of the outward to the inward motivational psyche. I now have a graduate degree in social work and my post graduate work includes training in suicide, trauma, depression, anxiety, drama therapy, social drama games for dementia, “stop and think” intervention, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Solution Focus and Motivational Interviewing.

I understand how difficult it may be to seek help, and I believe that the first step to having a positive therapeutic outcome is the client/therapist relationship. I employ a supportive and holistic approach to help clients feel comfortable, safe, and secure in the therapeutic relationship.

As a licensed social worker, I have experience working with a wide array of populations, with a focus on children, adolescents, and families. While I commonly utilize a psychodynamic approach, I understand that therapy is not “one size fits all” and am able to work with clients based on their individual needs. I have experience with various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I believe that while the past may have a role in who we are today, it does not need to be indicative of who we will be in the future. My goal as a therapist is to help clients better understand themselves, and their world, in order to identify triggers and root causes of maladaptive thoughts/feelings/behaviors. Through our work together I hope to help my clients gain insight, confidence, and effective coping skills.
